As you meander through your everyday life in Holmes Chapel, you might not realise the array of dedicated professionals tirelessly working to support our increasing number of residents who need care in their own homes. These professionals visit households across the area, providing vital assistance that enables residents to live independently. One organisation making a notable impact is Daski Ltd, a recent addition to our community that has rapidly expanded its team.

I recently had the opportunity to chat with Sijabuliso, the entrepreneurial owner of Daski, who embarked on a journey from Zimbabwe to the UK as a young adult to train as a nurse. Leaving his family at the tender age of 17 was tough, but he found solace in the similarities between the educational systems and his prior connections with British culture through a pen pal. Sijabuliso highlighted the strong emphasis on academic success in Zimbabwe as a route to better opportunities, a stark contrast to the UK where determination and uncovering one’s unique talents can also lead to success. These differences inspired Sijabuliso to launch his own care agency here in Cheshire.

Now settled in Cheshire with his family, Sijabuliso draws on his connections back home to navigate the care sector’s staffing challenges. His early career in various caregiving roles allowed him to refine his skills and deepen his industry knowledge, laying a solid foundation for his business. Sijabuliso’s personal experiences of moving countries give him a unique empathy towards his staff, particularly those relocating internationally. He strives to foster a family like atmosphere within his team, mirroring the nurturing environment his aunt provided when he first arrived in the UK.

During our conversation, Sijabuliso outlined the wide range of personal care services Daski offers. “Our team assists with essential daily tasks such as bathing, showering, and hair washing, as well as nail and foot care, oral hygiene, and managing toilet visits,” he explained, stressing the importance of maintaining client dignity and comfort.

He also delved into how they manage medication: “We ensure all medications are taken correctly and at the right times, crucial for maintaining health.”

Food preparation services are another key aspect of their offering. “We prepare meals tailored to individual dietary needs, involving clients and their families in the meal planning process to ensure food is both nutritious and enjoyable,” said Sijabuliso.

Acknowledging the heightened loneliness many have felt during the pandemic, he added, “Our care team also provide emotional and moral support, offering companionship during these challenging times.”

Additionally, Daski supports clients with household upkeep and transportation to medical appointments, ensuring all aspects of care are covered.

Sijabuliso’s business plays a crucial role in providing staff for an industry that has faced significant recruitment challenges in recent years. His personal experience enables him to support the wellbeing of his staff effectively, ensuring they are content in their roles. This contributes immense value to what is already a rewarding job.
