Go Local Sandbach - August 2025

By Greg Hall

By the time you find yourself reading this article, August will be upon us and thoughts will be turning - if they haven't already - to the summer holidays.

Of course, if you are planning on jetting abroad this summer, you will almost certainly have selected your destination months ago and been looking forward to getting away from it all ever since. We are lucky in Sandbach that we are a sensibly priced taxi ride from three of the UK's largest airports (Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham), with decent train links to each as an alternative option. Or, if you're feeling particularly brave, you can always risk driving your own car to one of these airports and leaving it there while you are away, just so long as you aren't overly fussed if it is still there or looks the same when you return.

Alternatively, you may be thinking of holidaying in this country instead, as we are, where it is still possible to get away from it all (although, we have two young children, so sadly we're forced to take 'it all' with us) for a week or two. Again, with the excellent transport links afforded by Crewe train station and the fact Sandbach sits right by the M6, there aren't many places in Great Britain you can't reach within a few hours.

If all else fails, why not stay at home and enjoy all that Sandbach has to offer?

Rather than splash all that cash jetting off to sunnier climes, spend it in our local restaurants, cafes and bars. Pop into our delightful little shops or have a potter around the weekly market. After all, we're British, so pottering is practically a national sport. If the weather is nice, you could go for a walk down our country lanes or the rail trail. For lovers of wildlife, the Sandbach Flashes (not to be confused with the Sandbach Flashers, who should be avoided at all costs) have been a designated 'Site of Special Scientific Interest' since 1963 and comprise fourteen wetlands including the brilliantly named Bottom's Flash, Groby's Flash and Pump House Flash. No, seriously. You might even meet our local Flash expert, Gordon, who incredibly is still alive according to his friend, Blessed Brian.

Better still, if the weather continues to impress, as it has done throughout June and early July (when I'm writing this article), rumour has it the Council are planning to spend some of our taxes filling that giant pothole on Bradwall Road with clean water to create our very own Sandbach Lido. What a time to be a Sandbachian.

Whatever your plans, enjoy yourselves and be kind to one another.

All information accurate as of August 2025.
